How the Impakter Index works
The Impakter Index pairs Klimado’s company sustainability data with Impakter’s reporting. This page explains where each part comes from, how they are joined, and what the numbers do and do not mean.
Where the data comes from
Company profiles and ESG assessments come from the Klimado (opens klimado.com) public Index. Klimado publishes a company’s name, country, sectors, website, profile text and — where the company has been assessed — its ESG scores. This site reads that public data as it is delivered and never changes it.
Stories come from Impakter (opens impakter.com)’s journalism, read through the public WordPress interface of impakter.com. Articles by content-marketing authors are excluded from every request, so sponsored or partner content never appears next to a company.
What the Index shows
Only companies that Klimado has published to its public Index appear here. The table lists 25 companies per page and can be sorted by score or by name, and narrowed by country and sector. The country and sector choices are drawn from the published set itself.
The “#” column is the position of a row in the current view — after the sort and filters you have applied. It is not a global rank, and it is not an award. The result count shows how many published companies match the active filters; it never counts unpublished companies.
How stories are matched to companies
Matching is by name. For each company, impakter.com is searched for the company’s name as a phrase; common legal forms — GmbH, AG, SE, Ltd, Limited, PLC, Inc, LLC, S.p.A., S.A., SAS, Oy, Oyj, AB, B.V., N.V., Co and Co. KG — are ignored on both sides, and the remaining words must appear whole. Suffixes that are not on that list, for example A/S or S.r.l., stay part of the name, which can make a match slightly stricter for those companies.
Stories are ranked by where the name appears: in the headline first, then in the opening lines, then anywhere in the body. Ties are broken by date, newest first. At most twelve stories are shown for a company.
When the name appears only in passing, the section is labelled as mentions rather than coverage. Short or generic company names can surface passing mentions that are not about the company at all; the label is there so you can judge for yourself. When nothing matches, the page says that Impakter has not covered the company yet.
A story appearing next to a company is a name match, not an editorial endorsement of the company by Impakter, and not an endorsement of the story by Klimado.
About the scores
Klimado rates assessed companies in bands from A to D, with Starter for companies at the beginning of their assessment. The overall score and the three pillar scores — environmental, social and governance — run from 0 to 100. As a reading guide, 75 and above indicates strong performance, 50 to 74 developing performance, and below 50 an early stage. A company that Klimado has not yet assessed is shown without a score.
Scores are Klimado’s assessment, not Impakter’s editorial judgement.
Scores can be withheld from this site while rating regulation is clarified; when they are, the Index is sorted alphabetically.
How fresh is this
Company data is refreshed from Klimado at most every hour, and stories from Impakter at most every 30 minutes. Pages are cached at the edge, so a change upstream can take up to that long to appear here. Nothing on this site is edited by hand.
Corrections
If a company’s details are wrong, the correction belongs with Klimado, which owns the company data. If a story is matched to the wrong company, or you spot any other error on this site, tell Impakter.
